Visit at Bike Jamboree

On 8th of July 2023, one of our fantastic VPs – Radek – went into Edinburgh. There he met with the members of Bike Jamboree, a few groups of Polish scouts, our friends from the Szkoła bez Granic im. Niedźwiedzia Wojtka and quite a few Polish government officials.

The occasion was the end of the Bike Jamboree. “JednoŚladami Andersa” (or Bike Jamboree) is a travel project during which riders take part in a bike relay following the route of General Anders’ army starting from the lower course of the Volga river in western Siberia up to Edinburgh, the UK and Gdańsk, Poland.

After nearly eight months, the bicycle-historical relay race reached the end of its journey. It took the participants for over 15,000 km, often in very difficult geopolitical conditions and climate. In the opinions of ordinary people as well as in the official announcements of official institutions, one can hear words of admiration and respect that they did something special, something that can change forever approach to historical education, which will help Poles look differently at slogans such as patriotism, courage and sacrifice.

The official part of the ceremony took place next to Wojtek the Bear monument in central Edinburgh. There the leader of the race reported successful completion of the race to the local scouts leader. And the rest of the ceremony moved to the prepared venue.

There were multiple people speaking at the ceremony, among them Aileen Orr, the author of the book about Adventures of Wojtek the Bear.

Thanks to our previous joint actions and commitments and personal relationships with Joanna, the headteacher of the Wojtek school, our representative got a chance to talk about us and our activities.

We are convinced that we will be remembered and all this will pay off in the future. We were invited to visit the Polish House in Glasgow by Mrs. Ewa. Scouts and the folk band will also be happy to cooperate with us.

8 lipca 2023 jeden z naszych fantastycznych wiceprezesów – Radek – udał się do Edynburga. Spotkał się tam z członkami Bike Jamboree, kilkoma grupami polskich harcerzy, naszymi przyjaciółmi ze Szkoły bez Granic im. Niedźwiedzia Wojtka i sporym gronem polskich urzędników państwowych.

Okazją było zakończenie Bike Jamboree. „JednoŚladami Andersa” (lub Bike Jamboree) to projekt podróżniczy, podczas którego kolarze biorą udział w sztafecie rowerowej trasą armii gen. Andersa.

Po prawie ośmiu miesiącach historyczna sztafeta rowerowa dobiegła tutaj końca. Uczestnicy pokonali ponad 15 000 km, często w bardzo trudnych warunkach geopolitycznych i klimatycznych. W opiniach zwykłych ludzi, jak i w komunikatach oficjalnych instytucji można usłyszeć słowa podziwu i szacunku, że zrobili coś wyjątkowego, coś, co może na zawsze zmienić podejście do edukacji historycznej, co pomoże Polakom inaczej spojrzeć na hasła takie jak jak patriotyzm, odwaga i poświęcenie.

Oficjalna część uroczystości odbyła się pod pomnikiem Niedźwiedzia Wojtka w centrum Edynburga. Tam lider wyścigu zameldował pomyślne ukończenie wyścigu do lokalnego lidera harcerzy. A potem, reszta uroczystości przeniosła się do środka.

Podczas uroczystości przemawiało wiele osób, wśród nich Aileen Orr, autorka książki o przygodach misia Wojtka.

Dzięki naszym dotychczasowym wspólnym działaniom i zobowiązaniom oraz osobistym relacjom z Joanną, dyrektorką szkoły Wojtka, nasz przedstawiciel miał okazję porozmawiać o nas i naszej działalności.

Jesteśmy przekonani, że zostaniemy zapamiętani, a to wszystko zaprocentuje w przyszłości. Zostaliśmy zaproszeni do odwiedzenia Domu Polskiego w Glasgow przez Panią Ewę. Chętnie nawiążą z nami współpracę również harcerze i kapela ludowa.
